Zuckerman's Famous Pig

Well, we didn't actually see any pigs, but we did see a lot of other farm animals and livestock.  We visited the annual Windsor County Fair (held in Barlow's Field just outside of Springfield) before we left for Cape Cod.  As a recent transplant to the country, I found a lot of the competitions and exhibitions fascinating.

When we walked in, the main event underway was the ox pulling contest. It's pretty much what you'd think it is; you have a team of oxen hitched to a palette of stacked concrete blocks, and with every successful pull they increase the weight by adding another block.

Here's a team pulling their weight mid-run.

The picture below shows how they set up the runs. The tractors add the blocks and return the palettes to their starting position.

These guys were on the sidelines waiting for their turn.  (Brave RH captured this close-up).

These guys were just sitting around taking it all in.  Twins, amazing.

Near the pulling ring the 4Hers set up a tent to show off their animal skills.  This is for Holly, we got this one right after they sheared an alpaca, or llama, not sure which it is.

Also under the tent were a few pens holding other show animals. Check out this one!
An Emo Cow! (P & P you should appreciate this).

And Emo Cow has a kid!

To top off the trip we stopped at the Fried Dough Hut.  This style of Fried Dough is far superior to the sad Zeppole that is so common to the NY street fair.

While we enjoyed our Fried Dough we were entertained by the Wild Country Cloggers of Bennington who covered a wide range of standards and somewhat recent hits, like "Thriller" in memory of pop superstar Michael Jackson.  All in all, a very good day.

Thanks Jennifer!!

Our friend Jennifer from Odette New York and her husband Steve just sent us these super cute booties for our upcoming Vermont winter baby!  Thanks Jenni and Steve, we love them!

They are made of boiled wool and will be really warm on the Bean's toes.  And they have these really cute velcro straps that make them look like little high-tops!
And along with these fuzzy little creatures arrived this beautiful and also adorable new necklace for me!  It's a little pea pod in rose gold vermeil, and I love it!  Double thanks Jenni!

Back from the Beach

As most of you knew, we spent the last week in Cape Cod.  This was the 3rd year we've spent in Truro, and surprisingly we just discovered how to find downtown Truro! It's easy, just follow Truro Center Road, but if you blink you'll miss it.  As with all vacations, it was sad it came to an end.

All in all it was a great time. We soaked up some sun and ate well (TH singlehandedly wiped out the Northeastern seaboard's population of wild Striped Bass). Most mornings we took the O to get some exercise.  You can see here she's extremely pleased.

And most importantly, we have an image for everyone who's been clamoring, a photograph of RH and the Bean.

That's pretty much 7 months in! And of course there's the O too.

And lastly, here's a foggy picture up the beach.
