Sick

It's been one of those weeks around here.  All three of us have been sick with a cold that just won't quit, a little grumpy, and under-slept.  Parenting a toddler while both you and he are sick is really not so fun.  I'm sure all of you with kids know what I'm talking about.  Luckily at least Emmett seems mostly recovered, and is back at school this week.
We are currently camped out at my parents house, which is my childhood home as well, while the bathrooms at our house are being renovated (!!!) Finally Emmett will have a tub, and be able to say goodbye to baths in the kitchen sink forever.
It is really fun to have Emmett over there.  I keep seeing him hang out on the same step in the kitchen that I used to hang out on as a kid while I watched my mom cook.  And he's sleeping in my old room too.  I just love the continuity of it.
And finally things seem to be slowing down a little bit work-wise, which is very welcome!  And I've had a chance to make some new collages, and do some administrative work that has been pushed to the back burner for way to long! And I'm finally going out to lunch today with my friend Carolyn and her now 6 week old baby!  It's high time for life to slow down a little.

Looking Back

A customer from back in my first days as a jewelry designer just got in touch with me in the hopes of recreating a pair of 14k earrings that he and his wife purchased at the Debbie Fisher Store in Brooklyn, at least 10 years ago.  These earrings were among some of my very first designs, and it was so fun to revisit them!
He ordered them for his wife as a surprise for Valentine's Day, who has been wearing the original pair for all of these years until she recently lost one.  Isn't that sweet?  I photographed them on a vintage map of Brooklyn, for just a little additional nostalgia.

Quiet Time

My mom is here visiting for a week, so we have been having a lot of quiet family time.  At least as much as possible during show prep season.  This time of year really seems to drag on, so it is a great break to have a visitor.
Here is a delicious recipe for a Vietnamese sandwich you could try if you are looking for a fresh and savory meal.  I recommend making enough of the fixins for leftovers the next day.
