Picture of the Day

Wildlife Update: AM Edition

It seems that nearly every morning when we get up, directly in front of our bedroom window there's a creature out there. Usually it startles TH since he isn't wearing his glasses and looks like a large brown blob. We saw this guy last week.

We suspect he lives under our barn and is most likely the guilty party who is eating RH's Phlox (RH has since constructed elaborate fortifications to protect the Phlox). We're not sure what to do about him yet.

And yesterday, we woke up to these guys walking around. Kind of like a March of the Turkeys.

Pretty cute, right? It's been fun waking up not knowing what you'll see and also run-tiptoeing through the house looking for the camera.

Big Thanks

There was a break in the clouds and rain yesterday so we stained our adirondack chairs. They're gonna look great on the patio. Big thanks to Cara and Brian!

First Pick of the Garden

Hi Everyone.  We picked our 1st small harvest of radishes from the garden.  TH and I planted radish seeds right when we got up here in the 1st week of May.  We also planted turnips, peas, carrots and scallions at the same time, but so far only the radishes are ready.  Actually, they are the only things even close to ready.  And here they are, in all their cuteness!  They are called Easter Egg Radishes.

They are pictured here with a little pile of sea salt for dipping.  They are very spicy and delicious.

We Have Ponies!

Ozzy and Parrot arrived here 1 week ago to be our lawn mowing guests for the summer.  Here's Parrot:

And Here's Ozzy:

They have been happily munching on grass and settling in to their new surroundings.

However, since this picture was taken they have eaten every last blade of grass in the ring, so we've gotta go down and move them to greener pastures.  More exiting pony posts soon!

Redneck Doggie Door

Our very delicate wilting violet of a dog decided that she'd like a doggie door please.  Only we didn't react fast enough.  So she made her own.

(For extra redneck effect, please note the hair stuck to the screen)

Please now start playing the banjo music from Deliverance in your head for the action sequence.  All together now:

Ba da ding ding ding ding ding ding diiiing. . . .

This guy was hanging out in our front yard.  I think he wanted us to go away.

Bringing the Outdoors In

Something I like to do with flower arrangements is to combine 2 or 3 flowers that are close in color, but not exactly the same color.  I think they make a nice kind of semi-clashing complement to each other.  Right now in Vermont the irises are at their peak, and right next to one of our patches of irises is a clump of chives, which makes purply pink flowers as they start to go to seed.

So I decided to take a little break from working in my studio, went out with my scissors, (and my camera like a good blogger) and snipped some blooms.

And since I was being slow in getting to the final arranging I put my two components into some water so that I didn't have to worry about them wilting as I played around with the photography and found the right vase.

So then I put the flowers in my vase, alternating between the chives and the irises, so the arrangement came out well integrated, and voila!  A purply mauvy semi-clashy eye catching arrangement.
