TH ordered a copy of this great new children's book called I Want My Hat Back, written and illustrated by Jon Klassen, and it almost instantly became a family favorite. There are lots of books that Emmett loves to have read to him that are not my favorites, like his steam engine sticker book, for example. Not a lot of story there. But this book we really all enjoy immensely. The protagonist is this hilariously low affect bear, whose hat has gone missing, and the story is his quest to get it back. Some of the humor is a little dark, but the dark parts are all subtext, and go right over Emmett's head, which is perfect. The best part of the story is how he gets his hat back, but I don't want to give everything away! Go here to pick up a copy for yourself to find out!

Rebecca Haas Jewelry: Sharing a booth with Clementine was Rebecca Haas, making it so hard for me to only go home with one piece. Her jewelry is elegant, simple, and sweet often using mixed metals (silver and gold) giving basic shapes a unique and dynamic look. My next purchase will certainly be from Rebecca!
In honor of the release, at long last of the next book in the Song of Ice and Fire series by George RR Martin, I am posting these pictures I took in France that reminded me immediately of the ruins of Winterfell. After patiently (not so patiently) waiting for five years, I am so happy to finally have this new book to sink my teeth into. So if you don't hear from me for a while, don't be alarmed, I have fallen into a Dance With Dragons, and I can't get up.
I know I am totally exposing my nerdiness here, but, well, you were going to find out eventually anyway. And to those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about, I'm sorry! They are really great books though, go buy the first one, and please don't hate me too much after loosing a year of your life reading obsessively!
Oh, and for those of you who care about reality, these pictures were really taken in a town called Baume-de-Transit. :)
I don't want anyone to take this as a non endorsement of this book, because we all love this book in our family. It is a really great story of individuality, courage, and creativity. And perhaps this is the sort of thing you notice after the 50th or 100th time through a particular book. But every time I read this page it makes me laugh a little and think, isn't this perspective of the future a little dark for a penguin?
I stumbled on a great food blog last night called Seasoned to Taste. I tried an older recipe of hers for stir fried cellophane noodles which was very tasty and quick. Recently she has posted a couple of interesting recipes using poached eggs which I am hoping to try soon.
And on a totally unrelated note, I love this seaside themed stamp set from Yellow Owl Workshop via Kickcan and Conkers. I am also coveting Yellow Owl's book on hand-printing techniques.
